IBEDC HOSTS SARPA MEETING

On the 23rd of June 2016, IBEDC hosted the South African Revenue Protection Agency (SARPA) in a knowledge sharing meeting on revenue protection strategies. SARPA was founded in 1997 with the aim to promote exchange of information and finding solutions to the protection of income and assets among utility companies. This year’s edition focused on some of these emerging issues plaguing the electricity distribution business.
The event which held in Jogor Centre, Ibadan was attended by a host of dignitaries from the electricity sector and other stakeholder parastatals in Nigeria. In the opening remarks, Mr Abimbola Odubiyi thanked everyone for their continued participation and support of the SARPA initiatives in the region. Thereafter, he was confirmed as the Ag. Chairman of SARPA, replacing Mr John Abbas.
The Technical Advisor of SARPA, Mr Rens Bindeman, went ahead to introduce the agenda for this year’s edition of the meeting, while emphasising on the strides SARPA had made in ensuring the growth of the utilities industry.
Presentations were made by Mr Udi Nsisak of PHED, Anton Fourie of AEDC and Mr Ola Ayodeji of IBEDC. These presentations covered key areas in the ongoing strategies at safeguarding the industry against energy theft. The presenters showcased some of the measures they were taking in their companies to combat the menace. Also Mr Sanmi Akinmusere from Cellulant Nigeria was on hand to educate the gathering on technology that could further aid revenue protection efforts in Nigeria. Afterwards there was a roundtable discussion session between attendees in which they further brainstormed on ideas to plug the leakages in the electricity sector.
The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks from Mr Jerry Ehanmo. The Chairman then thanked the organisers for playing warm hosts for the event and assured the gathering that considerable progress would continue to be made in revenue protection in Nigeria and beyond.
