IBEDC Reassures Consumers of Better Services

Electricity consumers from Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Kwara States have been assured of better and improved services.

Officials of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) gave the assurance at a hearing session held with its customers at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Ibadan forum office, Iyaganku, on Tuesday.

In his remark, the Chairman of Ibadan forum, NERC, Dr Babajide Taiwo, said that the meeting was called to address different complaints from various consumers of electricity within Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara and some other neighbouring states.

“NERC was put in place to checkmate and look into issues between the electricity distribution company and its customers. Anybody anywhere that has complaints as regards electricity can come here. The service is free.”

In attendance was a nine-man representative from Oloke Express community and Baale, Oremeji Ewekoro Local Government among others. They had several complaints ranging from estimated billing to lack of infrastructure. The Baale speaking said “However, I am happy with the way the forum has handled the matter, as I enjoyed the discussion and I hope that all that has been said will be complied with.”

Reacting to complaints about IBEDC officials exploiting customers, Dr Babajide said that “it is wrong for anyone to pay to individuals. Go to their office, pay and receive your receipt. Nobody should be paid while doing house calls, because most of the people going about to collect money are touts. We cannot trace them back to the distribution company,” he advised.

Speaking on why some of these complaints had to get to the forum, John Onifade of the customer care office, IBEDC, said “the NERC forum is a redress procedure to solve complaints from customers that are not satisfied with what we have done. We have addressed some of these complaints, but some are not satisfied in one way or the other. “However, we will comply with the NERC forum’s directive,” he said.
